Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Soldiers Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing celestial beings, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Heads-up: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season are included.

The Warrior Group Revealed

The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will separate from the central cast to begin their independent quest, apart from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).

Dividing the Cast

Considering an extensive roster, it was evident from the start that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Overture, intertwining the individual narratives before dividing into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

Per the DM, the warrior group is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven story mode where diplomatic options are rare.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the developments of the latest installment show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the team has a clear idea where to head next after a violent opening clash with the enemy group.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose demise started the campaign’s events—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, breaking into the secret base, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then cleared his obligations and fled to a secure base in the remote area, beyond Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Personal Motivations

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and best friend, wants revenge.
  • The knowledgeable figure knows the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The healer, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate Teor and instead freed him, have no safe haven.
  • However, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the group reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, Teor pledged a life debt to Wicander for his deliverance and will now accompany him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the setting for a multiple motives, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to travel to the northern region in search of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s follow-up content, we find out that the Soldiers table will not appear the following episode, leaving the rest of the cast members to assemble the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which characters will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, released on next week.
